2011 All Star Manager Candidates

The WBLL is looking for a few candidates for the following All Star Teams:

  • District 7 Coach Pitch
  • District 7 9 Year Olds
  • District 7 10 Year Olds
  • Little League International – 10 Year Olds
  • Little League International – 11 Year Olds
  • Little League International – 12 Year olds
  • Little League International – Juniors (13 & 14 Year olds)

All current Managers and coaches are eligible to manager one of the teams above.  If you are interested in being a manager of one of the teams above, please send an email by clicking here.  In that email, please list the team that you are interested in managing.  In the event you could be a candidate for more than one team, please list the teams in your email in the order in which team you would prefer to manage.  Unless there is a lack of manager candidates, one can only manage one All Star team.

Prospective managers, before you throw your name into the hat(s), please take into consideration that the District Tournament teams will begin practice either right before or right after Memorial Day Weekend.  You need to plan on your full participation lasting through the middle to latter half of June.

For the International Tournaments, practices will begin in the middle of June and games can last will into July…perhaps even longer.  So please plan on your full participation during those times.

Voting for All Star Managers (and Players…9 year olds and up) will be in the next few weeks.

Picture Day – Saturday, April 9th

This Saturday, April 9th, is picture day.  All players, coaches and team parents are invited to have their pictures taken.  Even if you do not plan on buying any individual pictures, please plan on showing if only for the team picture.  Other players who are buying pictures would appreciate the gesture as would the managers who receive a plaque with a team picture at the end of the season.

Here is a page from TSS Photography that contains links to things like the picture schedule and the order form.  Plan on showing up 45 minutes are so before your scheduled game this Saturday.

To avoid delays during the day, thanks in advance for being on time and moving through the process.

Opening Weekend Information

Here’s some information tidbits for the Opening Weekend Events scheduled for the weekend of March 4th and 5th.

Movie Night is Friday, March 4th starting at 7pm.  The movie and popcorn are free of charge.  The Dugout Cafe will be open for drinks, snacks and goodies.

Opening Day is Saturday, March 5th starting at 4pm.  Players will need to meet over on field 8 (south side of the park where the evaluations were held) starting at 3.3opm.  The cost of Opening Day is $25 per family.  If you have four family members…it’s $25.  If you have 8 family members…it’s $25.

The $25 covers food, bounce houses, face painting, DJ and more.

ALL players are welcome to participate in the parade and on the field activities such as home run hitting contests and throwing contests.

For more information you can read the Spring 2011 Opening Day Ceremony Information document.

Opening Day is less than two weeks away!

Opening Day is a week from this coming Saturday. If you need to pay the $25 for a family (which covers food, games and entertainment), please get your check made out to WBLL to your manager ASAP.  I believe the deadline has passed…but if you come with cash, someone will accept it.

Managers…you need to get packages (with checks and info) to your DVPs…ASAP.
DVPs…you need to get your packages to Wayne Barney…if not already…ASAP.

Please remember that Movie Night (movie to be announced this Friday) is set for next Friday at the fields.  Free popcorn (I believe) is in play just as last year.

Managers/Coaches/Players – if at all possible, please try to keep off the foul lines when warming up or doing any skill drills.  The grass takes a beating from getting painted on and from getting no water from the County.  When players/coaches come along and start warming up on the foul line or running drills with volunteers/players standing on the foul lines, it only speeds up the process of going from grass to dirt.

News Channel 5 will be at West Boynton Park tonight.  No, unfortunately they are not coming out to do a piece on your player or your player’s team.  The county gave the league a heads up that Channel 5 will be out at the park tonight…so the league is sharing with you.

Regular Schedules are just about completed.  The Coach Pitch division has only 13 teams so there is a good chance that a 14th team from another local Little League organization will jump in and play as the 14th team to balance out the schedule.  That will hopefully be finalized tonight.  Schedules are due to be released on Thursday evening.  Check your email and the league’s web site on Thursday evening or Friday morning.

Little League Bat Restrictions.  Little League continues to update their list of approved bats and approved composite bats.  For you Combat bat users/purchasers out there…nothing new to report.  For the full list of all approved bats, you can go here.  For the full list of approved COMPOSITE bats, you can go here.

Holiday Food Drive

Led by the 11-U Barracudas…the Barracudas are looking for your help.

This year having the opportunity to represent West Boynton Little League in WBLL’s first ever season in Competitive baseball…the Barracudas would like to give back to the community by helping to provide for families in need this holiday season.

This Saturday the Barracudas will be holding a food drive this Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the West Boynton Fields.  Please bring your canned food and goods to the fields on Sunday.  There will be a few donation boxes for you to leave your donations.

The local facility that the Barracudas will be helping is the Caridad Clinic on Boynton Beach Blvd (just west of the turnpike).

The Barracudas will package the food and deliver on or about November 23rd.  I’m sure there will be other opportunities such as next Saturday to bring your donations.

Thank you in advance for all donations!!!

Picture Day Schedule

Hello everyone.  Just a reminder that this Saturday is picture day.  TSS Photography will again be doing the picture taking this season.  They have provided WBLL families with this information page.  While visiting that information page, you will find the following:

  • the schedule of when your team needs to be at the fields here.  In order to keep the day moving….please plan on arriving 10 to 15 minutes before your scheduled time….especially for those playing at 8.30am, 10am and 11.45am on Saturday.
  • Most managers should have received a stack of pamphlets and order forms to distribute to families.  If you didn’t get one, no worries because you can find it here.
  • There are also packages that you can purchase such as posters, coffee mugs, buttons, equipment bag tags…which you can see here.

For anyone who will not be able to make the picture taking this coming Saturday, a make-up date will be announced in the near future.

If you have any questions regarding picture day…feel free to send an email to wbllbod@wbll.us.
Thanks!

Marlins Day – Fall 2010

Hello everyone.

West Boynton Little League is again partnering with the Florida Marlins to provide the WBLL community with discounted tickets to a Florida Marlins game. This fall season The WBLL and Marlins have the team from the North side of Chicago in town as the Chicago Cubs visit Joe Robbie Stadium for a game on Sunday, September 19th at 1.10pm.

Neither team will be contending for a playoff spot tho’ the Marlins’ Wild Card hopes are still on life support with a major double-header vs. Philadelphia on Monday. But it is the last Sunday home game of the season for the Marlins. That means pre-game, on the field parade for all WBLL players and volunteers wearing uniforms (shirts and hats only…NO cleats…sneakers only allowed on the field) and then the post game Diamond Dash where all kids get to run the bases.

As the WBLL continues to improve its processes…Marlins tickets will be purchased via credit and debit cards (vs. paying by check after finding a manager or board member to give that check to). All purchases will be done via PayPal in a safe and secure environment.

You can view the Marlins flyer here.

Tickets will be available online at www.wbll.us on Monday, September 6th.

If you have any questions about the Florida Marlins game, please send an email to Michael Razzo at mrazzo@wbll.us.

Have a great Labor Day holiday.
