Season Update

As the league continues to navigate this unprecedented pandemic, the Board of Directors has continued to prepare for a return to the fields.  As you may be aware, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis lifted restrictions on youth sports and Little League has advised all leagues are eligible to continue consistent with state and local guidelines.  However, to date Palm Beach County has NOT allowed youth sports to resume. Nonetheless, we are preparing for possible approval from the County to continue our season as soon as June 1st.  With that in mind, the Board is providing this update on the schedule and new safety guidelines that WBLL will be following when we are able to resume.

First, our schedule going forward will include one (1) full week of practices for all teams followed by four (4) weeks of regular season games and a season ending tournament.  There will be no practices after the first “practice” week.  With the exception of Teeball, teams in all divisions will be scheduled for three (3) games per week.   Teeball division will be scheduled for two (2) games per week.  Because of this limited schedule, games that are rained out will not be made up.  However, WBLL will do everything possible to prepare the fields for play.  As a reminder, please contact your team manager as soon as possible to let him or her know if you will be returning to finish the Spring 2020 season so that we can schedule accordingly.

Second, all families will be required to view the game from outside the outfield fencing.  In an effort to adhere to social distancing guidelines, we ask all families to leave a fence post between other spectators.  On Field 7, WBLL will a white “fence line” with spacing markers for the parents to view the games.   Please note that only players, coaches and umpires will be permitted to use the restrooms at the baseball quad fields.  Parents and other spectators must use the restrooms outside the quad at the soccer fields or the playground.

Third, players on the batting team will be spaced along the sidelines and bleachers instead of in the dugout.  Only the on-deck hitter will be allowed in the dugout.  Hand sanitizer will be available for all players, coaches, and umpires in the dugouts and on the sidelines.  All equipment not being used must be stored in the player’s bag on or at the sideline fencing.  The wearing of Personal Protective Equipment is strongly recommended for all coaches, umpires, and parents.  Players will be permitted to wear face masks during the game.

Fourth, extra time will be allotted for all games to limit the number of people at the quad fields.  We will also be adding extra time between games.  Players will not be permitted to enter the quad more than 30 minutes prior to game time and will be required to exit the quad no more than 15 minutes after their game. There will be no handshakes or team meetings after games.  Additionally, all players will enter the quad fields through main entrance between Field 4 and Field 5.  After games, they will exit the fields via the soccer field adjacent to Field 4 and Field 7.

Fifth, food, snacks, gum, candy, sunflower seeds, etc. will not be permitted at the fields.  Players will be allowed to have personal drinks.  There will be no sharing.  The snack shack will NOT be open and water fountains at the quad fields will NOT be operational.

Sixth, if you, your child, or anyone else in your household:
-       is ill;
-       have a fever, cough, or respiratory condition;
-       have a compromised immune system;
-       is in any other group that may be at an increased risk of contracting a virus; or
-       have recently traveled to a country listed on the CDC’s Risk Assessment by Country

WBLL asks that you or your child refrain from Little League-related activities until cleared by your healthcare provider. If your child will be missing from a game or practice, please let your managers know.

Finally, we encouraging all those that are actively participating – including players, volunteers, families, and fans – to follow the best practices as outlined by the CDC.  The practices include washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (if soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer); avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands; and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.

We understand that many of our players, volunteers, and parents are eager to return to the fields as soon as possible.  However, it is important that we do so in a manner that safe for everyone and, therefore, we appreciate your cooperation in following these guidelines.  As we receive additional information or updates we will provide them to you as soon as possible.  You can also find information regarding the impact of the coronavirus on Little League at its website located here: https://www.littleleague.org/player-safety/coronavirus-update/
